I love this practice as taught by spiritual teacher Gabby Bernstein. This is a tangible tool that is especially effective for those of us that are more tactile oriented. By repeating a phrase silently while gently pressing your thumb against your index finger, then your middle finger, then your ring finger, then your pinkie finger, you are activating a tactile point of focus.
It is fast, effective and can be practiced anywhere. Let’s get started.
Step 1: Take a few deep breaths as you inhale and exhale through your nose.
Step 2: (inhale) gently press your thumbs against your index fingers and silently say: PEACE (exhale)
Step 3: (inhale) gently press your thumbs against your middle fingers and silently say: BEGINS (exhale)
Step 4: (inhale) gently press your thumbs against your ring fingers and silently say: WITH (exhale)
Step 5: (inhale) gently press your thumbs against your pinkie fingers and silently say: ME (exhale)
Step 6: Now – inhale for one full cycle (peace begins with me); exhale for one full cycle.
Repeat as many times as feels comfortable and as frequently as you want throughout your day. This is a great grounding practice that can be done anywhere and when you can feel stressful moments starting to get to you – waiting in line at the grocery store, in a stressful meeting, or even at the dinner table when you find yourself distracted and not feeling fully present.
