Monday Mindfulness: Heart Sutra

Today’s tip comes from one of my favorite teachers – Davidj who just launched his new book destressifying. I highly recommend it. As articulated in the book, “this technique was popularized by Drs. Deepak Chopra and David Simon…. Heart Sutra connects the deepest aspects of our being to the most universal understandings of what the heart truly means.”

Let’s Get Started.

Step 1: Take a few deep breaths as you inhale and exhale through your nose. When you feel settled, place your hands on your heart.

Step 2: As you bring your awareness to your heart, envision a green color in that area. And now, very slowly, silently repeat with your eyes closed: peace, harmony laughter love.Peace, harmony, laughter, love…and keep silently repeating. When you notice you’ve drifted, gently drift back to peace, harmony, laughter, love.

Step 3: After a few cycles, rest your arms on your lap and just sit in the stillness and notice any sensations.

Step 4: Continue to bring this heart-centered awareness throughout your day.

Davidj is one of the first teachers I learned meditation from and this exercise so beautifully exemplifies his accessible and lighthearted approach and spirit. As we tap into the properties inherent to our heart center, we find them much more accessible in our day-to-day.
